The Bear ProFund – BRPIX - is an inverse fund that provides exposure to the S&P 500 Index. This bear market fund attempts to correspond to the opposite direction of the S&P 500, before fees and expenses. So, when the S&P 500 lost 13% in 2001, the Bear Profund gained 14.3%.
Conversley, the fund will experience losses when the S&P 500 rises. So, in 2003 the S&P 500 climbed 26.4% and the Bear Profund fell by 24.5%.
To accomplish its objectives, the fund managers take positions in vehivles that collectively will have an inverse correlation with the S&P 500.
